Auto Nappa
Vegetable-tanned nappa, exceptionally soft and smooth.
The softest leather of the range. A smooth, open grain with no coating over it, supple in the hand, in the tradition of German nappa leather known for its softness. Auto Nappa forgives little and ages the best for it.
What it is
A smooth, exceptionally supple full-grain nappa, vegetable-tanned and barely finished. The name stands for the soft, smooth character of classic nappa leather. With no heavy pigment layer the natural grain stays visible, along with everything that belongs to a material that grew.
How it is made
Almost no milling; instead selection and a long, gentle finishing for softness. Because nothing hides the surface, the quality of the raw hide decides the result almost on its own. Only a small share of each delivery meets the requirement for Auto Nappa.

- Darkens temporarily, evens out as it dries
Honestly: vegetable-tanned leather darkens temporarily when it gets wet. That is not a fault but the consequence of an open fibre with no barrier coat. The colour evens out again as it dries.
How it ages
Vegetable-tanned leather changes more than chrome leather does, and it changes in one direction: darker, warmer, glossier wherever it is handled.
New
Open grain, pale tone, matte hand. The scent is at its strongest.
After one year
The first handled areas begin to shine. The tone has taken a step towards cognac.
After three years
Edges and corners are visibly darker. The leather is softer without losing its body.
After five years
A closed patina. Two pieces from the same batch no longer look alike.
The colour fields are an indication, not a photograph. A real ageing sample from the same hide comes with every sample set.
Crafted into
For soft, smooth work where the surface itself is the subject and every stitch stays visible: wallets, unlined bags, upholstery.
